Arriving in Valdez for a teaching job in 1977, Jan planned to stay only for a year or two and explore Alaska. Now, 40+ years later, Valdez has become home.

Believing that creating Art is a very important activity for humans, Jan incorporated art projects into every subject that she taught. She has retired now, and she spends her time gardening, making whimsical hand-built clay vessels, reading, and quilting when she’s not busy with family and church.
